It has been evident from the beginning that Meghan Markle had a clear plan and plot when she decided to marry Prince Harry. Every step she took seemed calculated and sinister, with the sole purpose of reaching the inner circles of the British royal family. However, what many people perceive is likely only a small part of Meghan's true calculations and ambitions. 

To begin with, it seems Meghan's loose outline was to marry someone wealthy, famous and with high social status so that she could acquire those things for herself by extension. It's interesting that as an American woman, she chose to husband hunt in the UK rather than in her home country. While the US has many famous and wealthy men, particularly in Hollywood, American society lacks the deferential class system that still exists in much of Europe. As a meritocracy, it is harder to gain status and prestige through marriage alone in America. The UK monarchy still retains a form of aristocracy where titles and ranks are inherited, which likely appealed more to Meghan's ambitions.

Of course, this does not fully explain why she was reportedly interested in footballers like Ashley Cole before meeting Prince Harry. Having attracted the interest of a member of the royal family, she must have felt incredibly validated and excited at the opportunities now open to her. However, it seems unlikely that Meghan fully understood or planned for the expectations, duties, traditions and limitations that come with being a senior royal. 

Looking back at Meghan and Harry's courtship, it is clear there were already tensions and power plays occurring, with Meghan unwilling to accept that she could never truly hold the authority she desired. So what was her actual plan and expectations going into the royal wedding? Did she still hope to gain the upper hand, or was she already plotting their exit from the family?

It seems their initial strategy was to try and upstage the senior royals from within the institution. However, when they inevitably collided with the entrenched hierarchy and traditions of the monarchy, Meghan and Harry took their perceived popularity and tried to cash in on the fame globally through big-money media deals with Netflix and Spotify. When that backfired due to their inability to fulfil contracts and scandals surrounding their behaviour, it marked the start of their ongoing campaign to publicly attack and undermine the royal family in the press.

One thing is clear - Meghan now clings ferociously to her Duchess title and ensures her children retain their royal styles and titles, despite quitting as working royals. She has truly become the poster girl for narcissism, aggression and an inability to accept any criticism. In reality, had she understood the realities and responsibilities of the monarchy, Meghan would likely not have found a way in.

She needed a wealthy and high-profile yet naive spouse that she could totally control and manipulate. Prince Harry, sadly lacking in emotional intelligence and reeling from his mother's death, fit that role perfectly. It seems Meghan's plan from the outset was to gain prestige and global fame, without any actual interest or understanding of the duties required. She continues orchestrating media appearances and attacks on the royals in a desperate bid to maintain a spotlight on herself, long after quitting the royal family.

There are some actions Prince Harry could potentially take now to protect himself, as it is clear Meghan intends to continue leveraging and profiting from their relationship indefinitely, while giving nothing back. Gifting away all assets temporarily to protects them, declaring bankruptcy, building a case for abuse, and getting ongoing counselling would help create barriers to Meghan's ambitions.

Ultimately though, Meghan's grand plans seem to be imploding as the Netflix and Spotify cash dries up and audiences tire of their hypocritical victim narratives. At nearly 40, Suits was ending and marriage to a prince became her backup plan for continued fame and luxury, with little regard for the realities of royal life. Now facing losing their remaining titles too, the future looks increasingly bleak unless Meghan can conjure another headline-grabbing stunt.
