Last night's ESPY Awards ceremony was full of tension and drama surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Photos and video from the event appeared to show an argument between the couple as Harry went on stage alone to accept an award, without acknowledging or bringing Meghan. Their body language and interactions throughout the evening revealed a troubled relationship that has many questioning their public persona.

It seemed there was a huge fight just before Harry went on stage. Meghan was seen clinging to Harry as he got up, clearly expecting to join him or at least be mentioned in his speech. But Harry didn't even bother to lean in and kiss her or bring her up at all. No one was amused by Meghan's display, with many in the audience giving her obvious side eyes. She fully tried to steal the spotlight from Harry in that moment, refusing to let him go on alone.
Meghan's death grip on Harry and the look on her face when he didn't take her with him said it all - she was clearly not happy that the plan, whatever it was, didn't go as expected. Meghan has never had a problem inserting herself where she isn't wanted before, so it was surprising she didn't follow Harry onto the stage. But it's possible Harry or the organizers refused to let her join due to the backlash they've been receiving over their controversial actions lately.

After the awkward moment, Harry and Meghan then left the ceremony separately in different cars. This fuels suspicions that all is not well between the couple privately. Harry received the award on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation, but notably did not mention Meghan's involvement with the organization at all in his speech. Meghan has tried to take credit for Invictus in the past, so she probably felt entitled to share the moment with Harry on stage.
However, it seems there is a lot more respect in that audience for people like Mary Tillman, the widow of Pat Tillman who the award was actually honoring. Most of the attendees were highly accomplished athletes who have worked hard for every opportunity, unlike Harry who was born into privilege and buys his awards and accomplishments. When Mary spoke, people listened with respect, whereas Harry and especially Meghan are seen as frauds who are undeserving of the adoration they demand.

The stink eye directed at Meghan from many in the audience showed their irritation with the production the Sussexes have made of every event. While Harry received this award, which Pat Tillman's own mother said he was undeserving of, Meghan inserted herself as usual to continue cultivating her image as a VIP. But it's clear to many now that the opposite is true - she is a controversial figure alongside Harry due to their actions demanding praise and attacking his family for not giving them more support and privilege.

Some have speculated Meghan didn't join Harry on stage due to fears of being booed. But it seems more likely she wanted to be up there taking credit and adoration, as always, and was prevented from hijacking the moment meant to honor Pat Tillman's sacrifice and legacy. Harry looked scared and definitely unhappy to be receiving the award at all. He may blame others for not seeing him as the wounded soul he claims, but the truth is awards and respect cannot be bought as he and Meghan seem to think.

Their lack of genuine care or understanding for who the night was actually about, Pat Tillman, showed through loud and clear. Hopefully this debacle will make Harry and Meghan reflect on how their constant attention-seeking damages their public image further. But Meghan especially seems unable to stop her pathological need to present herself as a wonder wherever she goes. If she cannot change this pattern of behavior, it will likely be her undoing in the public eye who see through their manufactured celebrity personas.

This incident is reminiscent of Harry previously receiving an award at the Invictus Games on someone else's behalf. He and Meghan continue to insert themselves where they are not deservedly due and buy meaningless trophies and accomplishments rather than earn true respect. Many attendees at the ESPYs saw them clearly for the first time as the controversial figures they have become through their privileged actions and divisive behavior, not the woke celebrities they portray. The drama and tensions between Harry and Meghan on full display may be the wakeup call to change their approach, but it remains to be seen if their egos will allow that.
