The sun is shining down brightly as I sit here in the backyard, lathered up with a thick layer of sunscreen to protect my skin from the warm rays. It's the perfect weather to be outside and enjoy some time in the sunshine during this heat wave that has hit London. I've decided to film today's video from the comfort of my backyard rather than being cooped up inside, so let's get right into discussing the latest news and drama surrounding the British royal family.
As many of you know, tensions have been high ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down for their explosive interview with Oprah last year. In it, they made some shocking claims about their experiences as working royals, including allegations of racism. This obviously caused a huge divide, with some fully supporting Harry and Meghan and others not believing their side of the story. William and Kate were said to be furious over the interview and pushed for the monarchy to issue a stronger denial of the racism claims. According to new reports, it was actually Kate who came up with the impactful phrase "recollections may vary" in the official royal response. She and William reportedly insisted that a tougher statement was needed to really push back against the allegations.

It's now being revealed just how strongly Kate herself felt about defending the royal family against these accusations. As the future Queen, she would have felt immense pressure to protect the reputation of the monarchy. Some experts even say she questioned whether Harry and Meghan had an "agenda" with the interview. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it's clear this divide has caused lasting damage that may take a long time to repair, if it can be at all.
In the aftermath, many labeled the entire royal family as racist, which I'm sure was Kate's biggest fear. This is why she wanted that stronger denial released to the world. However, it does make you think - if they were really so worried about being branded racist, perhaps it's time for some serious self-reflection on inclusivity and modernizing traditional ways of thinking. But that's a whole other discussion.

Now, some new speculation has emerged that Kate may take on a role in helping to reconcile Harry and Meghan back with the rest of the family. Apparently, sources are claiming Kate is being "tipped" to act as the mediator between the two sides. Personally, I find this a bit far-fetched. No offense to Kate, but what experience or qualifications does she have for such a huge task? She's rarely even spotted with William, let alone spending time with Harry and Meghan. Unless they've all been having secret crisis talks behind the scenes, I just don't see how she would suddenly become the family's spokesperson.
There's also talk of a new book coming out with claims that Kate used to fear being overshadowed by Princess Diana before inheriting her Princess of Wales title. She reportedly considered refusing the title altogether because of the inevitable comparisons people would make between her and Diana. And it's not hard to see why - Diana was adored by the public and really did change the royal landscape. She had a special kind of charm and charisma that was unlike anyone before or after her time as a royal.

So it makes total sense that Kate would feel immense pressure to live up to such iconic standards. Even now, people still critique Kate's every move and style choice against how Diana did things. It must be incredibly stressful to have your whole career as a royal constantly compared to someone as beloved as Diana. So of course, a new book dredging all this up would be Kate's worst nightmare right as she's trying to cement her place in the family. The timing couldn't have been worse for her.
One royal expert even said Kate "went missing" for a while after being reduced to tears following a phone call with William, where he apparently dashed her hopes of marriage by chasing other women. She is then said to have gone to extreme lengths to win him back, even dressing up as a nurse during a college party in a bid to get his attention again. The mental image of a heartbroken Kate going to such desperate moves really paints a sad picture of their earlier relationship troubles before they officially tied the knot. It seems William has always like pushing boundaries when it comes to fidelity.

All this being said, things may have thawed between Kate and Meghan to some extent behind closed doors. Maybe now that some time has passed, they can at least be cordial with each other for the sake of the family. But based on Kate's extremely defensive reaction to Meghan's interview claims, I wouldn't necessarily expect hugs and friendship any time soon. Only time will tell how their relationship evolves from here.
In the meantime, I think I've had enough sun for one day. My skin is starting to feel a bit warm, so I'm going to reapply some more sunscreen before wrapping up this video.
