It was an eventful day on the Jeremy Vine Show yesterday as callers confronted frequent royal commentator Carol Malone about her targeting of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The discussion centered around whether a reconciliation between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family could be possible in light of some recent social media activity from the palace. However, it quickly turned into an opportunity for viewers to call out Malone directly for her consistent criticisms of Harry and Meghan.

The first caller, Mava, immediately dismissed the idea that the palace's post signaled any real interest in reconciliation. She believes it was simply motivated by wanting to improve their reputation after some backlash from a recent video. More importantly, Mava stated that Harry and Meghan are happy living independent lives in California, away from the scrutiny of the British press and royal family.

This seemingly triggered Malone, who tried to interrupt by questioning how Mava could know they are happy. However, Mava pointed out that Malone herself was making claims without evidence as well. More significantly, she noted that people like Malone don't actually like seeing Harry and Meghan happy and successful outside of the UK. Malone's attempt to interrupt and tell Mava to be quiet only served to confirm her larger point.

The next caller also strongly criticized Malone and the British media's excessive involvement in scrutinizing every move of the royal family. They argued that constant speculative coverage has created an endless cycle of uncertain and contradictory storylines. When Malone denied the media invents stories, this caller directly called out her long history of writing "horrible stories" about Princess Diana, William and Kate, and now Harry and Meghan.

This was an astute observation, as Malone has clearly developed a pattern of negatively targeting whoever is currently seen as challenging the established hierarchy within the Windsor family. Prior to Meghan, she directed many unfair stories at William and Kate's popularity. And before that, Diana suffered under similarly harsh media coverage when she posed a threat to King Charles.

Perhaps the most absurd part of Malone's defense was claiming confusion over why Harry and Meghan still talk to the media, just after denying the media invents stories. Of course, when the Sussexes do engage, it is through carefully planned interviews and statements to specific outlets - not through the constant stream of unnamed palace "sources" that fuel the British tabloids. Malone seemed desperate to avoid taking responsibility for her role in fanning the flames of royal controversies.

Overall, this rare confrontation demonstrated how commentators like Malone perpetuate negativity around certain family members while parroting palatial talking points. Viewers took the opportunity to highlight her long track record of targeting multiple figures within the House of Windsor. Rather than acknowledge the criticism, Malone attempted to dismiss and shout down those holding her to account. However, these callers' insights into the media's manipulations and Malone's biased history struck a chord.

It remains unlikely any true reconciliation between the Sussexes and other royals will occur, given the palace's apparent source of many leaked stories aimed at damaging Harry and Meghan's reputation. As long as figures like Malone continue serving as proxies for covert briefings against less co-operative family members, tensions will persist. However, moments that allow the public to voice skepticism of the constant character assassinations may chip away at the stranglehold tabloid commentators currently have over shaping notions. With any luck, more tough questions could be on the horizon for other repeat offenders in the royal rumor mill.
