Sophie lamented the dire circumstances that compel women to risk violence just to flee or access basic resources.

After speaking with a young refugee girl, Sophie reflected on how her silence betrayed her deep trauma. The Duchess said she could not fathom the depths of suffering, and was troubled by thinking of what horrors the girl may have witnessed or experienced. As survivors recounted atrocities like stacks of dead bodies, Sophie admitted some accounts were too chilling to publish. She was overwhelmed by the cruelty inflicted on children, terming it "beyond comprehension."

The refugee camp Sophie visited houses an astonishing 230,000 people, equivalent to the population of Portsmouth. It serves as a critical point for delivering aid amidst the conflict. However, the government may soon close the border crossing, suspecting it enables weapon smuggling. Meanwhile, RSF forces continue destabilizing the region with violence.

On a visit to Guernsey, Sophie showcased her sporting talents by joining a sailing race and regatta organized to celebrate the RNLI's 200th anniversary. Photos showed the down-to-earth Duchess dressed casually in sailing gear, looking enthusiastic as she actively participated in handling ropes and the ship's helm.
