Prince William has revealed that both he and his wife Catherine experience jealousy in their relationship. The royal couple, who recently celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary, have endured breakups and periods of absence from each other over the years due to feelings of envy.
William and Catherine first met in 2001 while studying at St Andrews University in Scotland. They began dating shortly after but William broke things off in 2007 after feeling "claustrophobic" in the relationship. However, the separation did not last long, as William found he could not bear the thought of Catherine being with someone else. He rekindled their romance later that same year out of jealousy.

Since marrying in 2011, William and Catherine have presented a picture of marital bliss to the public. They share three young children together - Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. However, that picture of perfection does hide moments when the jealousy between them peeks through.
During a joint engagement to Portsmouth in 2016, video footage showed William growing visibly irritated while Catherine conversed at length with Olympic sailor Ben Ainslie. William was seen unenthusiastically clapping and crossing his arms as Catherine and Ainslie continued speaking. His body language made it clear he was displeased by their interaction. Some observers remarked this likely stemmed from jealousy over Catherine's attention on another man.
The following year, when presenting medals at the Americas Cup World Series, William opted not to have Catherine by his side. He instead awarded the trophies to Ainslie and his team alone. This choice was interpreted by many as William still feeling envious toward the sailor and not wanting a repeat of their animated conversation from before. The pettiness of William's jealousy in these situations became something of a humor to spectators.

In 2021, footage emerged of William and Catherine participating in a video call with actors Emma Stone and Emma Thompson to promote the Disney film "Cruella." During the lighthearted exchange, William revealed he had been "propositioned" the day before by a 96-year-old woman named Betty McGee who wanted a kiss on the cheek. Catherine jokingly remarked this was what happened when she wasn't around to supervise.
While fans gushed over the charming display between the royal couple, some picked up on Catherine using a softer, more relaxed timbre in her voice compared to previous engagements. Speculation ran that hearing William mention another woman, even in totally innocent context, likely elicited a twinge of jealousy in Catherine prompting her change in demeanor. Their playful ribbing at each other showed both experience minor envy from time to time.

Later that year, William embarked on a solo trip to Namibia in his role as patron of conservation charity Tusk Trust. While there, he expressed regret Catherine could not join due to being on maternity leave with their then newest son, Prince Louis. However, he also playfully added she was "immensely jealous" of his chance to get "a few good uninterrupted nights of sleep" away from their three young children.
This tongue-in-cheek commentary hinted Catherine does feel envious of the rare freedoms and downtime William gains from work engagements that take him away from their family duties at home. Even royals with all life's luxuries at their disposal are still human beings who experience the stirrings of possessiveness in relationships.

Overall, while Prince William and Catherine present a portrait of deep love and commitment overall, small signs have emerged over the years of minor jealousy flickering beneath the surface from time to time. Whether over each other's attention on outsiders or opportunities for escape, it shows they remain intensely emotionally invested after more than a decade together. Their willingness to affectionately jest about such feelings to the public reflects the strong bond of understanding between them.
