Meghan Markle is encouraging Prince Harry to leave the past behind him and embrace the future, says expert

Meghan Markle is said to be desperately wanting Prince Harry to move on from the past and focus on building their new life in California. The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly encouraging her husband to stop dwelling on past issues with the royal family and look forward instead. According to a royal expert, Meghan believes looking back with negativity is a "waste of life" and what's important is how they choose to move forward as a family.

Jenny Bond, a former BBC royal correspondent, says Meghan's outlook of leaving the past in the past seems a healthy approach. "If Meghan is encouraging Harry to put the past behind him and move forward, I think it's a healthy move," Ms. Bond told People magazine. "They've made their decision, they've left the working royal family and they've left the United Kingdom. Reflecting on past injustices and reliving old quarrels is a waste of life and I think Meghan sees that."

Meghan and Harry's decision to step back as senior working royals was announced in January 2020, sending shockwaves through the monarchy. They resigned from royal duties completely that same spring and relocated to Meghan's native California with their son Archie. Since settling in Montecito, the couple have welcomed daughter Lilibet while also inking lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify.

However, some experts believe Harry still struggles with missing life in the UK. In his forthcoming memoir, Harry gives a candid reflection on fond memories of family gatherings in Britain. According to Bond, this suggests he may regret damaged relationships and still hopes to repair them. But she notes Meghan likely sees their royal past as firmly behind them now.

An insider who spoke to People after Megxit said this move had always been Meghan and Harry's plan. "This is what Meghan and Harry have always wanted - to create their own life. They've wanted to get out of the UK and go their own way," the source said. The couple have strived to build a new chapter focused on their philanthropic work rather than royal duties.

Some speculate Harry privately struggles with his decision at times, acknowledging what he left behind in Britain. One of his close friends told The Times that Harry admitted in a strange message he's an "angry boy" and things didn't turn out how he wanted. The friend said Harry clearly misses being in the UK and wishes to be better respected there. But publicly, he and Meghan have plunged head-first into their new Californian lives.

Bond believes Meghan encourages looking only forward because she sees the past as firmly in the past. "She married into [the family], it didn't work, and she wants to get on with the rest of her life," the former BBC correspondent noted. Being based in California allows the Sussexes to raise their children largely outside the royal fishbowl and on their own terms. However, some wounds from Megxit still haven't fully healed on both sides of the pond.

Harry's recent attacks on his father Prince Charles' parenting in interviews have certainly not helped his ongoing reconciliation with his family. But with or without full royal reconciliation, Bond says Meghan remains committed to encouraging her husband to embrace their new chapter. "I think for Meghan, who didn't grow up in that environment and that world, her future and their future is in the United States," she stated.

Moving forward, the Sussexes continue developing their post-royal careers and charitable efforts through their Archewell Foundation. Upcoming projects include Meghan's podcast series and Harry's memoir release later this year. Both works promise further insight into their experiences with the royal family. However, supporters argue they now have the freedom and independence to build happiness on their own terms in California. And if insiders are to be believed, Meghan will keep nudging Harry to shut the book firmly on any lingering bitterness over their royal exit.
