coming out of Meghan Markle's recent interview with Oprah. If you're new here, be sure to subscribe for more daily and consistent content.

In the interview, Meghan opened up about her experiences with suicide ideation and bullying, both before and after joining the royal family. She said that at one of the lowest points in her life, she didn't want to be alive anymore. It's clear just how dark a place she was mentally, and really goes to show the depths of her suffering. While she didn't want to go into too much detail out of concern for others who may be struggling, she felt it was important to share her experience to help address the stigma around mental health issues.

Of course, the British press are dragging her for even bringing this up, claiming she just wants attention or to criticize the royal family. But the focus of the interview wasn't on the royals - it was on much more serious issues like bullying, social media harm, and youth mental health. Meghan seemed understandably uncomfortable when the interviewer tried to steer the conversation more towards the royal family. She said she's barely scratched the surface of her time as a working royal.

Based on some of her comments, it seems Meghan did face challenges in navigating life within the royal institution. But to attack her for opening up about her personal mental health struggles is just cruel. No one can truly understand what she was going through unless they've experienced depression and suicidal thoughts themselves. Her willingness to discuss such a private struggle could really help others feeling similarly, by helping reduce the stigma.

Over in the UK, it's been reported that Kate Middleton will be taking some time off for a summer getaway with Prince William and their three children at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Now, the Daily Mail is making it sound like this is some huge achievement for Kate, describing it as her "longest journey" since her cancer diagnosis earlier this year. But it just seems like a normal family holiday! I don't understand why they're portraying her as some fragile figure.

It makes the disparity in press coverage between Kate and Meghan very apparent. Kate gets praised for the smallest things, while Meghan endures non-stop criticism. Taking a holiday with your family shouldn't be presented as this major medical milestone. Meanwhile, Meghan opens up about her darkest mental health struggles and gets attacked for it. The double standard is astounding.

Speaking of the royal family, it was recently announced that King Charles will be undertaking a tour of Australia and Samoa later this year. But based on his past international trips, this one could turn into a bit of a mess. Charles doesn't always seem to read the room very well and his tours often involve some awkward moments. Between dealing with issues around the Commonwealth and questions about Harry and Meghan, I expect the pressure could get to Charles. We'll have to wait and see how it all unfolds.

In the end, I'm happy Meghan felt empowered to share her story in the way she saw fit during the Oprah interview. She acknowledged she doesn't want pity - she just wants to encourage real conversations around these vital issues. And for raising awareness of the ongoing challenges within the royal structure itself. It will be interesting to see how the firm responds or changes going forward as a result.
