I am speaking to you today with a heavy heart. For over a week now, scenes of unrest and violence have gripped many of our towns and cities. What began as peaceful protests has descended into criminal acts that threaten the very fabric of our society.
As your King, I feel a profound sense of responsibility to help guide our nation through this challenging time. While I remain at Balmoral as is customary in the summer months, I have been following events closely and receiving regular updates from government and law enforcement officials.
The issues that have sparked these demonstrations run deep. For too long, communities of color have suffered discrimination, hardship and worse. Their voices calling for justice and equality have gone unheard. As King, I pledge to do better - to listen with empathy, act with compassion and lead with moral courage.

However, violence and lawlessness are never the answer and will only damage the cause of justice. Destroying people's livelihoods, homes and businesses serves no purpose but to divide us further. I call on all those engaged in unlawful acts to cease immediately. There are always better solutions than mob rule and vigilantism.
At the same time, I recognize the anger that has reached a boiling point after generations of injustice. As a society, we must reflect seriously on how we can dismantle systemic racism and build understanding between all communities. Discrimination of any kind has no place in this nation under my kingship.

I have spoken with Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Home Secretary, and they have assured me that restoring law and order while also addressing long-standing inequities remains their top priority. In the coming days and weeks, the government will announce new policies and initiatives focused on social justice, police reform, economic opportunity and uniting our diverse population.
As King, I am here to serve all people equally regardless of background or belief. In this dark hour, I call on each of us - from all walks of life - to come together through compassion and nonviolence. We must overcome division with solidarity, fear with hope, and hate with love. Our shared future depends on recognizing each other's humanity and acting upon the basic dignity in every soul.

This trial has laid bare painful truths that can no longer be ignored. But from reflection comes growth, and from growth comes progress. I know that if we summon our strength of character and human spirit, we will navigate this storm and emerge wiser and stronger on the other side.
