This has been a challenging week for the close-knit Middleton family as a harrowing new book from Princess Catherine's younger brother James has laid bare her private health struggles. In the book, James Middleton recalls moments from when Catherine confided in him about her relationship and engagement to Prince William.
According to James, there was a terrific buzz throughout the country in 2010 amid rumors of an impending Royal engagement announcement. However, before it was officially announced, Catherine sat James and their sister Pippa down in a quiet corner of a village pub in Buckleberry, Berkshire to whisper the news to them in November 2010. James said they made a quiet acknowledgement that they'll always be there for each other and look out for one another to support each other. Pippa and James wanted to be visibly excited but had to tamp down their emotions so that no one would be expecting the news.

After the official announcement was made, James said that he was walking around Battersea Park in London when it hit him that this was true love. At the time, William had earned his approval and he knew the Prince was the right man for his sister. James has also fondly recalled an unexpected story about how his now-wife Alizee first met Catherine's children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
According to James, the encounter wasn't planned at all. After attending a wedding near their parents' home in Berkshire, James and Alizee decided to stay the night at his childhood home, unaware that the Middleton family was also staying for the weekend. The next morning, James was woken by the sound of giggling outside the bedroom door. It was George and Charlotte, unbeknownst to him. James gently hushed the children and took them downstairs, where he found Catherine and William already enjoying their early morning tea in the kitchen.

At this point, Alizee had just woken up with her hair tossed and wearing one of James' shirts. James said that in such situations, Alizee is wonderfully poised - she does not panic or rush upstairs to get dressed, but instead greets everyone warmly as if it's not unusual at all to be meeting her boyfriend's sister and brother-in-law for the first time while wearing only an oversized man's shirt. The royal children then started asking Alizee all sorts of cheeky questions. So James introduced her to them, and they were all talking and laughing as if she had been part of the family for years.
In a recently released video from Kensington Palace, Prince William and Catherine have captured hearts once again with their warm and affectionate displays. The touching footage also includes an important update from Catherine about her recent battle with an undisclosed illness. Those close to the Wales family have pointed to several hopeful signs of Catherine's progress in her recovery, as hinted at by William. An insider said the Prince has seemed noticeably more relaxed recently and has a fuller diary of engagements planned after the summer break. When giving cards and gifts for his wife, William also gave a new 12-word update about how she's doing, saying "It's good news, but there's still a long way to go."

Despite Catherine's ongoing health struggles, she has continued undertaking official duties alongside William with grace and dedication. During a recent outing to launch an initiative to support the children's mental health sector, the royal couple appeared in great spirits, chatting and laughing with participants.
