It has been reported that Prince William is unhappy about his younger brother Prince Harry receiving a substantial inheritance when he turns 40 years old in September. According to sources, William would prefer that Harry not receive millions from the estate of their great-grandmother without putting in any effort to earn it.

When Harry reaches the age of 40, he will gain access to a trust fund that was set up by his paternal great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, after her death in 2002. The Queen Mother established a trust of around £90 million for her grandchildren. However, the terms stipulated that the money could not be accessed until each grandchild turned 40 years old.

This means that in September, Harry will receive an estimated £85 million from the Queen Mother's inheritance. It is believed that the sum Harry will inherit is slightly higher than what his brother William received when he turned 40 in 2022. According to royal historian Christopher Anderson, the slight discrepancy in amounts is due to William's position as the future King of England. As the Prince of Wales, William already inherited the highly profitable Duchy of Cornwall estate valued at over £1 billion when he became Prince of Wales in 2012.

A source close to William reportedly said that the Prince is unhappy that Harry will have millions more in assets without having to work for it. "The combined wealth of Harry and Meghan Markle is estimated at around £60 million already. The fact that Harry has taken no action to earn this money apparently sickens William," said the insider. They added that "There's no way around it except for shaking his head" about Harry receiving the huge payday without effort.

While William would have preferred that Harry not access the trust fund money at all, there was nothing that could be done as the terms of the inheritance were set out explicitly by their late great-grandmother. "William doesn't believe his brother deserves this inheritance and he has made his feelings clear," stated the source.

It seems William is not the only family member unhappy about Harry's upcoming windfall. Kate Middleton, who was once very close with Harry, is also said to be uncomfortable with the situation. "Neither Harry nor Meghan trusts William and Kate," explained the insider. "So the fact that Harry is now capitalizing on his great-grandmother's legacy leaves a very bitter taste in their mouths."

The breakdown in relations between the brothers has been well-documented since Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Tensions further escalated after Harry and Meghan's controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, where they accused the Royal Family of racism and a lack of support for Meghan's mental health struggles. While the rift has improved slightly since Queen Elizabeth's death and at her funeral in September 2022, past hurt and distrust still linger under the surface.

No doubt there is additional strain now with Harry's impending inheritance that William cannot block. Of course, as a senior working royal, William cannot publicly voice opposition to the established terms of the trust. However, his displeasure has apparently been made clear to Harry through indirect channels according to sources. For Kate as well, discomfort likely stems from the acrimonious split between the couples and broken bonds of sister-in-law that can never fully be repaired.

Overall, this situation underlines the deep family divisions that remain even after the passing of the late Queen who helped bring some detente. While Harry turning 40 is an event that should unite the brothers, the multimillion-pound inheritance serving to further separate them financially and ideologically in their differing roles. Only time will tell if a true reconciliation can emerge to patch the royal rift, but for now old wounds are kept open with this bitter inheritance squabble between the Princess of Wales, Prince of Wales, and Duke of Sussex.

In conclusion, reports indicate that Prince William is less than pleased about Prince Harry's upcoming multi-million pound inheritance from the Queen Mother's trust due to perceptions of Harry not earning or deserving the money along with wider estrangement between the families. While the terms were set legally, this issue highlights the ongoing royal rift that remains tenuous even after efforts to ease tensions following the Queen's passing. It serves as another troubling signpost for the troubled relationship between the brothers going forward.
