Hello everyone, thank you for joining me today. I want to discuss the ongoing saga between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the UK media. As we know, Harry and Meghan made the decision last year to step back from their senior royal roles and move to North America to gain more financial and personal freedom away from the intense media scrutiny in the UK.
Ever since this decision was announced, the UK tabloids have been relentless in their attacks against the Sussexes, publishing endless stories attacking their character and fueling fake narratives. A prime example is the story run by the Daily Mail recently claiming that Prince Harry had asked a former aide to help plot his return from “exile”. We all know this story is completely false. The UK tabloids lie so frequently about Harry and Meghan simply because they are desperate to keep readers interested and believing their made up stories.

The fact is that Harry is very happy with his life in California with Meghan and their children away from the toxic UK press. This supposed story of him wanting to return came entirely from the media’s own imagination, not from any actual sources or facts. Even people who normally believe the tabloids recognized this Daily Mail article as an outright lie. The story was then given air time on the Jeremy Vine show on BBC, where they discussed the fictional narrative as if it were real news.

The show had various callers weighing in on whether they’d like to see Harry return to the UK. Guest Nina, made some insightful comments. She said she’d welcome Harry back only if he truly wanted to return, as he and Meghan were pushed out of the royal family for being too popular compared to William and Kate. The other royals simply could not allow the Sussexes to outshine the heir to the throne. Nina’s point makes a lot of sense - Harry and Meghan’s global popularity and star power threatened the established order, so they had to be driven out of the country.

Since leaving, it’s clear the popularity of Harry and Meghan has only tripled internationally. Meanwhile the other royals like Charles, Camilla, William and Kate remain dull and uninteresting to the public. The family clearly never expected the Sussexes to find even greater success independent of the Firm. But here we are, with countries actively courting Harry and Meghan for visits while the rest of the royals are all but forgotten.

The callers on the Jeremy Vine show recognized this changing of the guard as well. One caller said that without Harry, the remaining royals are “lacking something”. They commented that Harry was always the true star of the family. They don’t blame him for walking away to protect his wife and son from the unrelenting attacks by the UK press, which the royal family refused to do anything about. Another insightful point - while the family continuously complains about Harry through their media allies, he was right to tell his own story in his book and Netflix documentary after years of others defining the narrative.

Even before leaving the royal family, Prince Harry had accomplished so much more than his brother William. He founded the hugely successful Invictus Games for wounded veterans. He bravely served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, something William has never done. But within the confines of the royal institution, Harry's potential was being limited out of fear he may outshine the future king. Since moving to a new chapter in California, Harry has been free to shine on his own terms.
He has rightly received awards for his work with Invictus and been honored for his military service. He has embraced new opportunities and platforms to promote meaningful causes. All the while, William remains doing modest royal engagements with little real substance or impact. In the end, it seems the best thing for Harry was to leave the toxic environment in the UK that was stifling his light. I'm sure Princess Diana would be incredibly proud of the man her son has become and all he continues to achieve.

In closing, it's heartwarming to see through the calls on programs like the Jeremy Vine show that not all British people blindly accept the false narratives pumped out by the tabloids. Some can see through the lies and respect Harry for standing up for himself and his family. I appreciate you joining me to discuss this ongoing story. Please feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below. We will continue exploring this topic further in upcoming discussions. Thank you!
