Recently Prince Harry made a surprise appearance alongside Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, but instead of receiving the usual applause from the studio audience, he was met with a tidal wave of ridicule. Fans were quick to troll Harry on social media for his bizarre cameo in Fallon's new haunted house attraction at Rockefeller Center.
The cringeworthy Halloween skit lasted almost 3 minutes and saw Harry navigating Fallon's nightmares and screaming "Jesus F" at various jump scares. One clever observer quipped that Harry's screams were actually because he suddenly realized he's married to Meghan Markle. Viewers felt like it seemed to drag on for an eternity.

While Harry was apparently trying to entertain and promote the sketch, the real horror was how poorly it would be received. In one amusing moment, a zombie extra failed to recognize Harry as he walked by and asked her co-star "who was that?" Harry even tried to joke that one of the actors resembled his Canadian crew member Michael B., but the laughs just didn't land with the audience.
As soon as the segment aired, viewers flooded social media with criticism. One user sarcastically remarked "he just realized that he married the biggest con of the century in Meghan Markle." Another added "I seriously couldn't detest this guy more and wish he would leave the United States and take his constant publicity stunts with him." The nasty comments kept pouring in, with one declaring Harry an "absolute joke" and a "weasel of a man."

It seems Harry's desperate attempts at humor only furthered the public perception that he's a washed up royal clinging to whatever remains of his past fame and relevance. But Jimmy Fallon must also shoulder some of the blame, as his plummeting ratings had clearly driven him to take huge risks with bookings like Harry. One Redditor astutely observed that "Fallon's nice guy act is patronizing and he comes across like a self-satisfied smug bastard."
Many viewers can no longer take Fallon seriously as anything more than a desperate talk show host hoping to recapture past glories. One can only imagine Fallon's internal monologue when booking Harry: "Oh man, my ratings are so low even a sixth-in-line British prince wants on my show. Anything's got to help at this point!" But it backfired spectacularly. After the segment aired, Fallon's numbers sank even lower, leaving him stunned by how badly it bombed.

The sad truth is Harry was about the worst guest Fallon could have turned to in such a dire time. As a Reddit user quipped, the duke is now as "relevant as a flip phone in the smartphone world." Fallon's risky strategy spectacularly backfired just as the NBC network continues trimming The Tonight Show's budget, cutting it from five to four nights per week. Fallon’s panic is palpable as he counts on pals like Justin Timberlake to save his sinking ship.
But with a 41% audience decline since 2019, it seems Fallon’s luck has truly run out. In this era where streaming has taken over, his brand of humor is rapidly losing its appeal. The same can clearly be said for Harry, whose only current claim to fame appears to be his former royal family that has now left him behind.

Both Fallon and Harry may soon have to face some harsh realities - sometimes battling plunging ratings or staying relevant is a far bigger worry than any haunted house scare could cause. Their careers now seem to be in genuine turmoil, and it remains to be seen if either will be able to stage a comeback from these calamitous missteps that left viewersrunning in the opposite direction.
